Cello recording for you.

High quality recorded strings for your project

without needing to hire a recording studio

In light of the Covid pandemic, the last 18 months have seen our arts community suffer in terms too great to comprehend (especially in Melbourne, Australia). Recording sessions in studios across Australia have been postponed, rescheduled and postponed again, or just flat out cancelled, more times than one cares to count. This has been so hard for everyone, especially for those who were either yet to finish a recording project or had planned to begin a new one. Rest assured, if you were planning to record strings for your project, we can tick this off your list.... together! I am here to help you complete (or begin) that long overdue project, remotely from my home recording studio.

What I can bring to your project

25 years of experience playing and recording with some of this country's greatest artists. Their influence, and what makes them unique is bound to rub off, right??

You'll find it, buried in the sound and the tone I produce, embedded in the melodic phrasings, in the groove of a bass line, and in the way I approach my writing and arranging in preparation for recordings.

A dear colleague of mine Greg Arnold (lead singer from iconic Aussie pop folk band 'Things of Stone and Wood) once remarked.. "Whenever I walk into a live venue, or listen to a recording and I hear a cello? I know.... that's Anita Quayle."

FAQs

Can you play and record other stringed instruments too?

While cello is my one and only instrument, it's a very versatile one, with a huge range (of over 4 octaves). This allows me to be able to record multiple parts if need be, in different registers, replicating the sound of a string ensemble/quartet. This is something I often do for clients, both in my own home recording studio and at other professional recording studios.

How do you charge for your recording services at home?

I understand that every recording project is unique, which can at times require me to wear vastly different hats (metaphorically speaking of course!). Some days it's a simple cello line on a singer/songwriters tune for their next album, other days a completely charted/composed and recorded string quartet!! However, I do find it easiest for everyone involved to charge by the hour (for projects requiring less than 6 hours of work.) For anything that will realistically require more time, I'm happy to discuss a flat fee project package deal.

What microphone do you use to record your cello with?

I use the O.P.R CK12 (with capsule upgrade), crafted by Mark Chierego. The O.P. R CK12 tube condenser microphone pays homage to a legendary giant of the microphone world, the AKG C12, and it's a dream to record with! I've had many a microphone or 2 put in front of me to record with over the years in many different recording studios (from the ABC studios in Southbank to Sing Sing Studios in Richmond), and this microphone definitely stands proudly on it's own ground! For the discerning microphone nerd, I strongly urge you to visit Mark's website.

“ I’ve chosen to work with Anita on multiple studio and live recordings and there is a reason why. She is an absolute boss of a player with great attention to detail and is just such a pleasure to work with.”
